Del Potro delivers big-boy tennis

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=6263886

"The first thing that comes to mind is probably underdog, which is probably what I'll be," said Fish, whose ranking of No. 15 is 36 spots higher than del Potro's. "Juan seems to be back to his normal self."

Which means the Big Three may soon be adding one more to their golf foursome.

VAMOS DELPO!!

Djokovic crushes another challenger, 7 bagels, 8 breadsticks now this year I think.
His weapon/racquet case was a surprise. I guess he is still the Djoker, but now he wins all the time.
Hope to see a Djokovic/Delpo SF, it would be great if they both played like they did today.

Roger passed Sampras in career wins today right?

Too bad it rained in the end today, Dolgo/Tsonga had some great points! The 2nd set point was especially awesome IIRC. Now whoever wins will have to play 2 (or maybe 1.3) matches with short rest, the second against Nadal, so they are probably doomed. It's nothing new though as all their matches have gone to a deciding set (5 setters at WB and AO are the others)

Nice to see Petko beat Caro too, more dancing :nanner:

i disagree. Both are playing very good, and either one are capable of beat not-so-good-as-last-year Rafa. Specially Dolgo, who, if he can calm down a little bit in the big points, has a very decent chance

I found it amusing, but a little too humilliating for the rival... how about a good ol' fight between chicks in the middle of the court. Wouldn't be amazing?

Now i'll root for a Masha-Kim final

in other news...

Murray buzz: Ivan Lendl as a coach?

http://gototennis.com/2011/03/28/muzz-buzz-andy-murray-approached-by-coach-ivan-lendl/

interesting... but a first-time coach for the no.4 in the world doesn't sound too promising.

Isner gets knocked out, 3 and 6 (4-7).

but Anderson will be bageled against Djoker, no doubt.

Fish-Ferrer, the first QF of Miami Masters

nice match. I'll root for Fish.

Delpo was very, very tired, just like he said last week. He will be a strong force in clay, for sure.

Nole's fans will root for Ferrer, i think.

Rafael Nadal - Alexandr Dolgopolov
- - NADAL 6-1 - SET! All too easy for Nadal as he seals the first set in under half an hour! The quarter-finals are closing in quickly!

Looks like you were right on the money, Lungzyn. Vamos Rafa. :D

Yup Nadal looks better than he did at IW, especially the serve (69%, no DF today). Alex The Kid no match on this occasion.
Petko won again against Jankovic, nice to hear. Ivanovic lost but it was very close, good that she isnt getting blown out as much anymore.
Federer should roll over Rochus comfortably.

Djokovic still unbeatable.

Simon beat Tipsarevic

now he will face (probably) Roger : that's bad news for us all Fedophiles. We all know how Roger suffers against the frenchman (1-2, with his lone victory, in 5 tight sets)

Masha wins in a 3 and a half thriller

i saw that match and Maria is all-heart, i must say.

I'll root for her against Jankovic.

^That should be Petkovic against Maria ;)

Didn't realise before that Ana blew a 5-1 0-40 lead on Kim's serve in the 3rd set. Oops, not good :anonymous

Federer wins easily, not surprising. I think he will finally beat Simon in straight sets in their upcoming match. Might be tight still though.

Mardy Fish claims No. 1 U.S. ranking

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/news/story?id=6274362

Fish claimed the top American men's ranking for the first time Wednesday by reaching the semifinals when he beat No. 6-seeded David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2.

A Minnesota native who grew up in Florida, the 29-year-old Fish will climb to at least 11th, a career best, in the next rankings. Good friend Andy Roddick will fall from eighth to 14th after losing his opening match last week.

good for him, but unfortunately, the potential SF against Nole doesn't too good...

First SF of Miami Masters is ready

Djokovic - Fish

5-0 for the Nolerminator, including 2 matches last year. The good news for Mardy is that he's playing superb, and that he is playing in his local ground, so, probably will have the crowd on his side.

However, the logic says that Nole is playing like never before and his mental strength is in the clouds right now. Maybe if Mardy can mantain his high level of this week, can force a couple of tie-breaks and fight them for a chance.

Can't remember the last time the American number one was not Roddick (Agassi, Samprass?).

Nadal to meet Federer in Miami semis

http://www.9news.com/sports/tennis/190804/616/Nadal-to-meet-Federer-in-Miami-semis

yay! :nanner:

the facts:
- Roger is veeeeery rested (0-3 ret against Simon)
- Rafa is tired (plus-2 hours to beat Berdych) and with some shoulder/neck problems
- Roger is 6-4 against Rafa in non-clay
- The match is in Miami, where there's a lot of spanish-speakers around, so, probably Rafa will have the crowd support.
- Roger has won 2 of their last 3 encounters.

the intangibles:
- Roger needs to make a statement, after losing 3 matches against Nole this year, losing the no. 2 spot
- Rafa needs to gain points, in order to stop the momentum of Nole, and prepare himself to defend 7.000+ (ouch!) points until Wimbledon.
- Rafa has the measure of Roger.
- Roger will need to forget their head-to-head

I'd bet on Roger in this one.

* can i get my money back? (just in case) *

Which way will it go, I dunno.
Most of their outdoor HC matches are old, 3 out of 4 played in 2006 or earlier. There have been some windy matches so far, it could be a factor.

Depends who turns up: Roger doesn't want Federror and Nadal wants 1st set Berdych not 2nd set Berdych.
Roger has played easy-beat guys (for him) so far, this will be his first real test.
Nadal showed he can have vulnerable periods which can be exploited.

I think the crowd was making fun of Vika's wail at the end. She is in the final against Sharapova, so that will be a non-stop loud match.
