1 day as a lion

Marlo Manson

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
This is the band that consists of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE'S (frontman/vocalist) *zack de la rocha* who is a vocalistic god IMHO, and (ex drummer) of the band MARS VOLTA, (I don't know anythng about MARS VOLTA or jon theodore) I just became interested albeit zack de la rocha's involvement!!

*(RATM - zack de la rocha)* is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAND OF ALL-TIME, without any doubt!! and ZDLR is one of my FAVORITE VOCALIST'S OF ALL-TIME he maybe thee #1 favorite of mine!! again IMHO RAGE IS ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST IMPORTANT BANDS OF OUR ERA!!!

that being said I just listen to the 1 DAY AS A LION- track *wild international* and I have to say I am very impessed and very happy ZDLR vocal delivery is similar to that of his vocal delivery in RATM's songs, not exactly, he definately (RIPS THE MIC) sort of speak, same type of importance of lyric's and political context.. (THANKFULLY) as a bandaid to stop the fiending of new RATM MATERIAL, but too hear new ZDLR without it being delivered ie: RATM!! its acceptable until a new RATM studio cd is concieved!!! ZDLR's vocals in 1 DAY AS A LION are more subtle, than that of his RATM style, 1 DAY AS A LION vocal delivery doesn't have the same angst, volatile, delivery ZDLR uses in RATM!!

The music is VERY TRIPPY, its got ROCK RIFFS, HIP-HOP, and ELECTRONICA/keyboard type effect to it.. it is really unique, I can't say it sounds like ANYBODY in particular, in fact it sounds like a UNIQUE TYPE MUSIC THAT NOBODY HAS USED BEFORE sort of the UNIQUE QUALITY RATM brought to the table when they fused ROCK/RAP/ METAL qualities to there music.. which has been a feather in the cap sort of speak cuz RATM was the ORIGINAL FOUNDER of the type of music they CRUSHED US WITH WHEN THEY MADE THERE DEBUT TO THE WORLD IN THE 1990's

Overall I am very excited to buy this EP which features the following tracks
Track List:
01. Wild International
02. Ocean View
03. Last Letter
04. If You Fear Dying
05. One Day As A Lion

and the official band website is:

http://www.onedayasalion.org/

in conclusion as A ZDLR/RATM (fanatic) I am very excited about this new band!! ZDLR (RIPS THE MIC) just like vintage ZDLR we have all come to know and love!!:hatsoff:

Well, I listened to the clip that plays when you open their website, and I can say that the music is pretty cool, but, just as with Rage, I think they should get a new vocalist; I absolutely LOATHE rap in any way, shape, or form, including when it's mixed with rock, and I've never like Zack de la Rocha's voice. I think Rage sounded better with Chris Cornell as a vocalist. :2 cents:

I'm not saying you shouldn't like this band, or that you suck for liking Zach de la Rocha, but it's just not my thing. Maybe if they did instrumental tunes... :dunno:

very stupid name. it turns me off from wanting to listen to anything that they write.

RAGE is one of my all time favorites! I have every album from them. Rage Against the Machine, Evil Empire, The Battle of Los Angeles, and Renegades. The Renegades of Funk track is the shiznit!

You can bet I'll fucking be there @ Lollapalooza 2008 in a few weeks!

Wow gsb you just killed me, I think ZDLR is one of the best vocalist's of all time, I unfortunately don't hear his vocals as (rapping) maybe it is rapping but off the rock riffs and the music (RATM) and now (1 day as a lion) use it just sounds like a another vocalist from a rock band, granted ZDLR doesn't have a melodic vocal style to that of a conventional vocalist for a less intent type vocalist like say the frontman of chevelle, deftones, or chrs cornell whom I didn't really care for in SOUNDGARDEN or AUDIOSLAVE, and just like you thats just IMO.. :dunno:

I think not totally in a copycat style, but I think alot of bands vocalist come with the sort of delivery of ZDLR does, for example I think MARILYN MANSON is simalar, so is SLIPKNOT, LINKIN PARK.. and even if ZDLR does have a rappers style and most people percieve his vocal style to that or a rapper, I just don't hear it like that, also alot of rappers you can't understand every word they say, either cuz its too fast or for whatever reason, I can hear and understand everything that ZDLR says, I barely ever have to go read the lyrics of a ZDLR track to figure out what ZDLR said..

very stupid name. it turns me off from wanting to listen to anything that they write.

although the band name is weird just from the knowledge of how the name derived is quite ok with me, their are dumb sounding and dumb named bands who's name suck and there music sucks to boot.. a double whammy.. but if they have a dumb name, they better sound kickass and have good music!!

“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ :hatsoff:

well kudos for the mythology, i figured that there was some interesting story behind the name, regardless.

sounds like a play on Milton.

Zach and the rest of RATM are hypocrites of the scummiest type.

For all of their bleating and farting and shrieking about "rising up against the oppressive government" horseshit that they bleat and fart out on every single boring record they make, they have never followed it up with any action, either physically or financially.

They have made over $30,000,000 in their careers and haven't donated one cent of that to any charitable cause good or otherwise.

They are filth.

Haven't bought it yet, so I can't comment on the record.

They are filth.

Bullshit.

If you don't like the band, or even what they stand for, that's fair enough. I don't agree with everything they advocate either. But don't concoct lies, because someone's going to catch you out and you're only going to end up looking the fool.

Off the top of my head, I can recall Zack donating $80,000 to the campaign group attempting to secure the release of Mumia Abu Jamal. During the 90s any fan of the band will remember the numerous benefit gigs they did for groups like FZLN, in the cause of Tibetan freedom and so on. Heck, they've even contributed to benefit albums...

Even when RATM split up, Zack wasn't just whiling away his time getting high on all the money he made with RATM. He was busy working with South Central farmers, protesting against their eviction...

From what I hear on the website im very interested, sounds good. RATM are one of my favourite bands to, I wish I could have gotten tickets to Reading/Leeds or T In The Park because I would love to see them live

What ever Zack De La Rocha does is usually always good, he's got a very good ear for lyrics.

Your take on this is that of mere speculation there influence and impact on everybody that has listened to there music and studied or researched their inspirations have learned alot because of RATM!! what other band of our era has had such a profound effect on its fans, audience and political influence and awareness???

how the hell do you know how much they've made in their career??? and how the hell do you know they haven't donated anonomously or donated on other peoples befalf?? for that matter how do you know if they've not given monetary support to issues that they have protested?? there's no way you know any of that for fact!! mere speculation on your behalf!!! if not where's the proof??? where's the article's and the reliable source of this incredible jaw dropping accusations??? RATM sacrafice's there time and spend their money to make an effort to show up or even lend there support by way of their music, or addressing the protest in person and directly pertaining to the issues of that said protest isn't that enough?? half the other assholes artists or celebrities that speakout against something like a world issue or a political situation just say it for PR!!! and they don't do anything to back there words or POV, as in showing up in person or lending there support in protest!!! as far as I am concerned you are just babbling speculation you can't support and have no proof other than your opinion!!! because you don't like RATM's music!!!

I am just bummed they are playing against my favorite band Wilco at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Shame to miss RATM!

i checked out there myspace profile and the song ''wild international'' played, omg what a fucking shit song, the music is horrible and the band name is just as if not even worse, i would personally not even wait my time going to a free concert if they were playing

i miss rage against the machine, which imo is a way better than onedayasalion and audio slave, dont get me wrong, audio slave was a wicked band but rage was way better

You should learn a little about the Mars Volta. Much better band than RATM. Also much better than One Day as a Lion (who sound just like RATM).

It is literally amazing the uniqueness of everybodies taste, when you go from person to person, cuz I liked the 1 day as a lion song the second I heard it, and with ZDLR on the mic it definately automatically hit the fiend spot for different material and different lyrics from ZDLR without it being delivered via. RATM, I think ZDLR is more subtle, with less angst then he is in comparison to that of RATM's vocals, I feel the music is alot different than that of RATM's, so all in all, I like 1 DAY AS A LION, and to address chris cornell I NEVER LIKED SOUNDGARDEN, as soon as ZDLR left RATM.. I instantly without hesitation loathed AUDIOSLAVE because I never liked CHRIS CORNELL.. :dunno: :hatsoff:

Just as I stated above its amazing how much people differ from person to person, I took your advice and listen to MARS VOLTA.. and I have to say, I didn't even remotely like the music, it sounded like a fiesta type band playing in the middle of the street, the vocals were very annoying not because it was in spanish or a different language, IMO the vocals didn't even flow or go with the music @ all, for you to say that MARS VOLTA is a much better band than RATM?? I couldn't disagree more, comparing MARS VOLTA against RATM is like comparing a cadilac to a yugo IMHO... and to stress our opinons even more I think 1 day as a lion does not sound anything like RATM IMO.. :hatsoff:

The name sounds like an emo pop rock bands name... Lame as hell. I expect from from these guys. The music is good, but with his vocals it just sounds like RATM with slightly worse musicians.

I love The Mars Volta, but they belong to a completely different genre. Given the choice between the two, I'd always go with RATM, for their passion, their ability to rock a crowd in the way TMV cannot, and the fact that their music is simply easier to listen to. You really have to be in the right mood for The Mars Volta because their stuff can be pretty damn strange.

I like what I've heard of One Day as a Lion, but I'm definitely missing Tom's guitar work. RATM were already pretty minimalist -- 4 musicians, with little or no other tracks. One Day as a Lion seem even more stripped down. Much more interesting to listen to than the deluge of crappy metal and hip hop acts out there who are just doing the same old thing over and over again, but not as good as RATM, or Audioslave at their best.

Well slipnot, opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. And right now, yours stinks.

BTW, 1 day as a lion sounds exactly like RATM. It's just de la Rocha rapping over basic rhythms mixed with unorthodox guitar techniques. Just like RATM.

I like RATM as much as the next guy. But they aren't as talented as Mars Volta. They aren't as good live either (I've seen both).

You seem to be forgetting your own advice...

I love Mars Volta... But I don't understand why you are comparing them to Rage Against the Machine. They are completely different genres of music.

Whether they are more talented or not is also opinion. RATM are all about heavy simple riffs. If they were to sit down and try to jam like Mars Volta, I'm sure they could pull it off.

Mars Volta is terrific.

By the way download their song, "Cassandra Gemini".

However what's the deal with the name? It's obviously referring to sir Benito Mussolini's infamous words, "it is better to live one day as a lion than an entire lifetime as a sheep". Benito Mussolini having been a great fascist, I can't help but wonder what that communist Zach de la Rocha would want to do with it.
