Also, as I mentioned in the OP clearly I couldn't figure out how to properly insert an image, so any guidance here for future posts would be appreciated.

I think they silently started allowing adult images again a while back. It doesn't change the fact that they are not the most reliable host, though.

Most times, they will remove it immediately. Other times, the report function will work just as good. That allows the Imgur members to keep themselves in check with one another.

The easiest way is to find another hosting service. Torre82 has a list of acceptable hosts under his name as his signature.

Saying what I did was based on my own observations of content remaining up over a period of time rather than what the terms actually say, though I can see that they are still there now that I've had a look.

I assumed they had relaxed the rules. Let's just say they aren't doing a very good job of enforcing it in that case.
