Breaking News: Romney Picks Ryan For VP

1. There is the concept of voters wishing the names on the ticket were reversed. Romney is in serious risk of this.

2. The Dems are going to have to be very careful to properly place the ***** to cut through Ryan's bullshit. He is from the Reagan school of stating fiction as fact...and getting away with it.

3. Romney can kiss Florida goodbye.

4. Keep the focus on tax returns, Bain Capital, flip-flops and no direct answers from the top of the ticket.

5. I honestly am surprised that Ryan said yes. It's interesting that now, the best thing that can happen, from a career standpoint, is for Romney to lose the election. Ryan will come away unscathed at worst, more of a golden boy to the GOP at best. If Romney wins, Ryan goes down with the sinking ship and becomes a right-wing Walter Mondale.

I thought the purpose of a VP candidate was a lot of times to pick up votes the candidate normally would not. How exactly is Ryan going to do this?

He'll grab a few of the ultra-conservative, Christian votes that couldn't vote for Romney the Mormon.

And, Mayhem, good point. This likely will be the nail in the coffin in Florida for Romney, and that will, I think, ensure a victory for President Obama. Especially if he can keep Ohio, too.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw this news. If Team Obama uses the same tactics the Tea baggers used to scare the elderly during the health care debate, Romney will be lucky if Ryan doesn't get beaten silly by some Social Security/Medicare recipient with a cane, while he's stumping in Florida.

Ryan is primarily a darling of the Tea baggers. And those people would vote for a rock before they'd vote for Obama (they love Palin, so voting for rocks isn't beyond them). So what did picking Ryan accomplish? Maybe they were afraid that the Tea baggers would just stay at home and not support Slick Mitt??? :dunno: But it seems to me that Romney just shot himself in the balls with the elderly (which he had been doing pretty well with), as well as educated Independents under 60 - which he was already struggling with.

And here in lies the largest problem with the decision.
Those on the hard right already **** Obama with a passion. They were already not going to vote for him - Ryan might pull some of the tea baggers out of the wood work, but not enough to make a huge difference, at least in my opinion.
Meanwhile, Romney is falling apart against independents. He needed to find a way to pull a lot more undecided voters onto his side - I cannot see a person like Ryan pulling more voters to the Republican side...in fact, he could work more as a Palin-effect more than anything else.

That said, more and more true Republicans level-headed are becoming more and more fed up with the tea baggers/W. Bushers/Koch Brothers/all-noise-no-subtance types which are presently ruining their party. One of the best things that could happen to the Republican party is for Romney to get completely destroyed in the elections, perhaps quieting the tea baggers once and for all.
The second best thing that could happen to the Republican party is for Romney to win, and the tea baggers to gain the House and Senate. After screwing up the country after a couple of years (hopefully not beyond control...Bush almost did it, but not quite), perhaps the grown up Republicans would work their asses to put the tea baggers permanently into the dumpster, once and for all. Which is really too bad, because watching that band of idiots try to understand the workings of government has been rather entertaining (seriously, has anyone here read the Ryan plan? It is a delusional fairy tale.)

Wow, that deafening silence from the Conservatives on the board is a real show of support for their candidate and his VP pick. :D

It's not just here. The crazy right wingers on my FaceBook and other forums have been remarkably quiet.
