Tom Petty vs Bruce Springsteen

Not to put down Tom Petty, but Bruce Springsteen is one of the most important singer/songwriters alive. Between Born to Run and Born in the USA alone, Springsteen surpasses Petty. Then he has a lot of other great albums like Nebraska.

Gotta show my support with some more love to Mr. Petty. Springsteen is indeed one of the top five most overrated musicians of all time, right up there with The Rolling Stones, I'm sorry to say. But hey, to each their own. I love Tom's voice myself but opinions very. I personally would never, EVER pay to hear "The Boss" myself.

Never heard about Petty before so I'm gonna say Springsteen

Anyway, Bryan Adams is better than both of them

Ever hear Bruce Springsteen sing Cadillac Ranch? Lord fuck that's bad! Can't pick out a word until he gets to "Cadillac." Not a huge fan of either, but Tom Petty for me.

There....seriously? LoL if you know the words you'll probably get it better, but listen to it without knowing the lyrics or even just heard it a few times before and it's like what the hell are you saying haha

Both are very good, slight edge to Mr. Petty.

No disrespect meant to the last page of this thread, but there was a gentleman posting from the fine country of France whom didn't know whom Mr. Petty was. I again am not trying to start anything, but there is no reward for general ignorance.

I dunno--I just feel that he has had enough middle-of-the-road rock hits to become a household name in many countries languages--and I was honestly a bit surprised rereading over to find out that someone didn't know whom he was. *shrugs* That's all. Just as I'm a large Francophile and I know many French film stars.

Well to each their own, so sorry my good man, but respect for each others opinions, I shall give. Every Springsteen song to be pretty much sounds the same. I LOVED that "Running Down a Dream" Petty documenatry I saw last year. Didi anyone else catch it?

He got the frickin halftime show at the Superbowl for chrisakes. Of course he's a household name.

I can name only one Petty song and I can't believe you people actually prefer him over Springsteen.

You've got to be joking. I guess he just might not get much love on that side of the pond. This maybe my favorite of his

Indeed, Bloodshot. It's why that guy's general ignorance kinda irked me a bit. I mean I am a naturally Anglophonic, English language speaking guy and I know about infamous singers & groups from: Germany, Spain as well as other Spanish speaking countries and France, too.

I mean most in the world should know whom Tom Petty are by at least his top eight or nine hits, now, or by his photo(s) if they were shown to a group. Is no reward in this thread for ignorance, so yeah that kinda surprised me. It would be akin to someone not knowing the rock group KISS whom I'm also not into or not knowing Welshman Tom Jones or Celine Dion who's sold millions, ect...

Bruce just got done performing in Helsinki several hours ago. And it clocked in at 4 hours & 6 minutes. His longest show ever. I don't think Petty's even gone half that..

I've been to two Petty shows. And both times were over two hours, with an opening act and I got plenty of entertainment dollar for my dollar, I felt. But to each their own ...

Petty by a long shot. Bruce has a few good songs but he's too politically driven... leave the drama at home I say.
